US Stock Market Holidays 2026 & 2027

Updated October 4, 2026Source: NYSE Group holiday calendar

The NYSE and Nasdaq close for 10 holidays a year and close early, at 1:00 p.m. ET, on the day after Thanksgiving and (when it falls on a weekday trading day) Christmas Eve. The next closure is Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26, 2026.

On every other weekday, regular trading runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Both exchanges follow the same holiday schedule, so the dates below apply to NYSE, Nasdaq and most US-listed stocks, ETFs and equity options.

In 2027 Christmas falls on a Saturday, so the market is closed on Friday, December 24 instead. New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, and under NYSE rules the market does not close on the preceding Friday (December 31, 2027).

Federal holidays when the stock market is open

Two federal holidays are not stock market holidays: Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Oct 12, 2026) and Veterans Day (Nov 11, 2026). Stocks trade normally on both days, but the bond market follows SIFMA’s recommendation to close and banks are shut. Read more in our Columbus Day 2026 guide.

How weekend holidays are handled

What about pre-market and after-hours?

On full holidays there is no extended-hours trading either. On 1:00 p.m. early-close days, after-hours sessions also end early — typically at 5:00 p.m. ET — though exact cut-offs depend on your broker.
